Tone of natural color, the uniqueness of Lanna

Color and cloth can be defined as Thai culture. There are many beliefs that affect to color of the cloth. 

At present, textile industry is very important for the growth of Thai economy. However, the growth of textile industry trend to be decreased according to high competitive. Furthermore, many investors also move production plant in our neighboring countries such as Vietnam Cambodia and Laos because of lower labor cost and products are easily imitated. Therefore it is necessary for enterprise to adapt to the changes.

Surapon Jaiwongsa Ph.D. and researcher team of Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (Lampang) had aware of important strategy for enterprise by building product identity in term of design, quality, and storytelling so researcher and team had developed natural dye color for textile which indicate to the uniqueness of Lanna especially for upper northern part of Thailand. Using natural dry color is value added to its products and also affect to purchasing decision making of local textile by adopting local wisdom of natural dying and culture to lift up local products to be industrial. The project of product development and competency increment of textile in upper northern of Thailand by adopting innovation and creative culture through its supply chain that affect from free trade agreement  which this project was supported by Department of Foreign Trade,  Ministry of Commerce

Research was a part of the project which aimed to study and produce natural dye color “LannaChromeTM” that indicated to color of Lanna by using program Real colors pro® to copy colors used to paint on old temple, 100 years Buddhism fabric paint and convert to Colour Palette. This research had gathered information and published as a book for enterprise. Therefore, this research contributed the value added to textile in term of uniqueness, design, quality and storytelling that is applicable.

In addition, this research received many awards such as Gold Medal and Special Award from Hong Kong International Invention And Design Competition (IIDC). Special Award from National University of Science and Technology (MISiS), Russia under the project LannaChromeTM  :  Natural Dye powders for Lanna Thailand. Next volume we will introduce reader about Natural Dye powders from this research project.
