Rajamangala Phitsanuloke Reinforced Sufficiency Economy Philosophy in Rice Berry Project

In today’s fast paced world, many of our teenagers focus on fashion, entertainment, and social media trends which may lead them to extravagant lives. As a role of teacher, we should teach them to think back about who we are and what we do for a living. In this regard, Rajamangala Phitsanuloke launched a project aimed to establish an activity to students to follow the philosophy of Sufficiency Economy.

Social Science, in the Faculty of Liberal Arts, organized a seminar called ‘ Rice Berry, Rice of Sustainable Development’ held on 11^th February 2014 in order to reinforce the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy in the topic of Rice Berry for the Sustainable Development. An invited instructor, Mr. Tawatchai Iamchitr, the village leader from Dakkanon village, T. Dhammamoon A.Muang Chainat province, gave useful information about rice berry harvest and study center. The Royal Development Study Centre was established according to the three main principles and 2 conditions in order to produce nutritious rice and reduce use of chemical fertilizer. After that farmers would have a good quality of life, health, income and community.

One of the farmers, Tee, a 15-year old farmer who owns 5 rais of non-chemical rice berry field said, “Being a farmer brings not only income but also happiness to me and I am very proud of this career.”

From this activity, students can have knowledge about rice berry and how to harvest chemically free. Last but not the least, students can learn how to adapt the philosophy of Sufficiency Economy to their lives not only in agriculture but also in their life management.
